Food...
This place has quickly become one of my favourite food capitals in Europe, with a mix of traditional and International to choose from.
Compared to many other cities in Europe, Budapest is cheap as chips.
Day 1 highlights:
Yes, they're both sweet.
Gelarto Rosa. Anyone and everyone who knows of Budapest know about this place. Scattered in 3 easy to find locations around St Stephens Basilica, they delicately assemble beautiful scoops of ice cream into roses. They looked and tasted amazing, and the flavours were unlike any I'd ever seen before. I went for Panna cotta and strawberry/elderflower, which were nothing compared to the rest! This cone, with 2 flavours was 600HUF

After climbing in the scorching summer heat, feeling rather lost and tired, we found cafe Ruszwurm. We went for the cream cake and another traditional Hungarian cake. The cream cake was SENSATIONAL.. I miss it already (don't try the supermarket knock off.. it will do nothing more than disappoint you). Drinks were a little pricy, but the cakes were very reasonable and made the rather clammy journey up worth every second.

Day 2 highlights:
For breakfast we found this little place hidden in a somewhat dodgy corner of the city. Don't let that put you off though. Szimply (no, not the famous ruin pub Szimpla) serve breakfast all day, and while they only have cold drinks to offer, they allow you to bring over coffee from the Kontakt right opposite. Szimply have french toast, acai bowls and all sorts of other breakfast dishes on the menu at very reasonable prices. The service was excellent, and they were truly passionate about what they were doing.

Dinner was a treat, salmon ravioli with a delicious tomato sauce, and of course a local Soproni beer. Menza, focussing mostly on Hungarian dishes, was completely packed whenever we passed by. Despite this, we still managed to find a table within 20 minutes on both nights, and enjoyed a drink at the bar while waiting. The restaurant is a must, with charm, atmosphere and friendly prices.

Day 3 highlights:
After visiting the zoo for a couple of hours in the heat of the day, we were totally exhausted and stumbled across a restaurant on the way back. Unfortunately we forgot to check the name, whoops! Instead, you can just enjoy the sight of this fresh asparagus salad.

Dinner again at Menza, this time cabbaged stuffed with minced beef and a dill sauce. Maybe not the most appetising of things to look at, but it was delicious! This was followed by cherry strudel and poppy seed ice cream for desert.

Overall, I would say that a trip to Budapest wouldn't be complete without at least one Gelarto Rosa ice cream, goulash and a visit to the ruin bars.
