Lets Talk About...Pokémon Go

Even if you don't play Pokémon Go, you definitely know someone who does.

Well, I for one have fallen into the Pokémon trap, despite never having had any interest in it before. It's Friday, so I decided to make some sweet treats in the form of Poké balls.

Any die hard fans out there will probably faint as soon as they see my personal touch on the cookies, but hey..they still look cute! I am no expert in baking, and art has never been my forte, but I think these turned out alright.

For the cookie, you can use any hard cookie recipe that you like, as long as it will allow for piping on top. I used the following for the cookies:

100g butter

60g demerara sugar

1 egg

2 tsp vanilla extract

275g plain flour.

Start by preheating the oven to 190 degrees and lining a baking tray with baking paper.

Next up, cream together the butter and sugar, before adding the egg and vanilla extract. Once everything is mixed well, add in the flour.

Put dough in fridge for half an hour.

Roll out dough to suitable thickness, before using round cookie cutters to cut out circles for the Poké balls. Put in fridge for 10 minutes so the shape stays when in oven.

Bake for 8 minutes or until golden brown.

For the icing:

250g icing sugar

1 egg white

Juice of 1 lemon or lime

Food colouring of choice

Mix icing sugar and egg white together until well combined. Add lemon or lime juice until you feel the consistency is right for piping.

It's important to cover the icing when you're not using it to avoid the top layer drying up.

I started by piping an outline of one colour at a time on all of the cookies, followed by the next. Once they were relatively dry, I then 'flooded' the outline and spread it evenly with a toothpick. Once all of the icing had dried, I took my final colour to pipe the stripe through the middle.

Happy baking :)

Emily
