My Weekend in Paris, on a Budget

Food

If there is only one place on this list you choose to visit, make it Bouillon Chartier. Here, they serve all sorts of French dishes, including snails, tartare and baba au rum. We sat next to a French couple, who spent much of their dinner having a good giggle with us over our French skills, or lack of. The prices are some of the best you'll find in Paris, for great food and service.

The next evening we stumbled upon a much smaller place called called Cèpe et Figue. We ate 3 courses for €19, which included a French green salad, steak and desert. Once again, the food and service were both extraordinary. There are plenty of other restaurants and cafes to explore in the cosy area of rue St Andrè.

If ever in doubt whilst in Paris, pick the French onion soup. You won't regret it.

French supermarkets are also a good place to buy breakfast or lunch in, as you'll find lots of good French food at very reasonable prices.

As for drinks, wine is much cheaper than pretty much any other alcohol in Paris, and also local. Anyway, why would you ever choose beer over wine in France!?

Sights

If you're under 25 and from the EU, you are lucky enough to have free admission into loads of museums and galleries, including the Louvre!

One thing I would say is definitely worth the money is a trip to the top of the Eiffel tower.. though at times slightly terrifying. Once you reach the top, you'll have views views over the entire city. There are quite a few discounts and ways to beat the queues, so that's definitely worth checking out beforehand.

There are plenty of walks, with something the see around every corner, cost... zilch.

Paris is also full of beautiful parks and gardens, most of which have free admission.

Transport

The metro is definitely the best way to get around the city, unless you're staying right in the centre and have a good pair of shoes with you for some lengthy walks.
